Getting Started with the Accessibility Zoom Feature for iOS, iPadOS, and iPodOS
The Zoom feature on iOS, iPadOS, and iPodOS allows a user to magnify anything on your display no matter what you are viewing. You can enlarge the display entirely or in a resizable window. This article will go over how to setup, enable, use, and disable Zoom.
Locate and Enable
- Open Settings
- Tap Accessibility
- Tap Zoom
- Enable Zoom
Use Zoom
- Double-tap the screen with three figners to zoom in and out
- Double-tap and swipe up and down with three fingers to adjust the magnification or triple-tap with three fingers to bring up the quick settings, then slide the slider to adjust the magnification.
- Drag with three fingers around the screen to move the magnification window around.
Zoom Settings
There are many settings you can adjust for Zoom listed and explained below:
- Follow Focus: Track your selections, text editor cursor, and typing.
- Smart Typing: Switch to Window Zoom when a keyboard appears.
- Keyboard Shortcuts: Control Zoom using an external keyboard with shortcuts.
- Zoom Controller: Control Zoom with an on-screen controller that can be moved and placed anywhere on the screen at any time.
- Zoom Region: Choose Full Screen Zoom or Window Zoom.
- Zoom Filter: Apply one of the following filters: Inverted, Grayscale: Grayscale Inverted: Low Light (dims the display in Full Screen Zoom or the window in Window Zoom) or choose none.
- Show while Mirroring: If enabled, whenever you use Zoom while sharing your screen, viewers will see it. If disabled, viewers will not seee you using Zoom during screen mirroring.
- Maximum Zoom Level: Adjust the max magnification you can perform with Zoom.
Use Zoom with Pointer Device
If you use a pointer device, You can use zoom with the following settings found in Pointer Control section under Accessibility in Settings.
- Zoom Pan: Choose Continuous- Centered- or Edges to set how the screen image moves with the pointer.
- Adjust Size with Zoom: Allow the pointer to scale with zoom.
Zoom Controller
- Tap the controller once to show the Zoom Menu
- Double-tap the controller to quickly zoom in and out
- Tap and hold, then drag the controller to temporarily zoom in. Release to zoom out.
- Drag the controller while zoomed in to pan around and move the zoom window (both Full Screen Zoom and Window Zoom)
- Drag the controller while zoomed out to move it.
